You Make Me Smile
You Make Me Smile – Layn Marlow
We are now on to our last book of the Easy Peasy Pods year which is You Make Me Smile, a lovely simple story book about a little girl’s experience of winter.
We have been working on this book in the lead up to Christmas and have been enjoying doing all things wintery and Christmassy.
Week 1
For our first session we read through the story with our mums and their babies, having fun looking at the pictures and reading through what the little girl gets up to during the first snow fall of winter. We all enjoyed reading through the book and it helped get us all in the spirit for Christmas.
For our activities this week we have been spending time making lots of decorations for our parent and child room where our Easy Peasy Pods sessions take place. We have made lots of paper chains, giant snowflakes and festive pictures to decorate the room to get us all in the Christmas spirit. We had fun using lots of different materials to make these which we obtained from a local shop called Re-Create Social Enterprises LTD, a local non-profit organisation which makes art and craft supplies from recyclable materials.
The parents enjoyed getting creative and everyone finished the session feeling very much in the Christmas spirit.
Week 2
This week in Easy Peasy Pods we have had our parent and child Christmas party.
We had fun with lots of the residents and their babies, reading through the current book, playing games and even had a special visit from Santa who delivered some presents to the little ones.
We all had a great time at the party and the residents enjoyed having the social interaction time with each other as well as their babies all enjoying playing with lots of different toys and spending time with each other.
Our young residents also enjoyed the visit from Santa, although some of them were not so sure to start with.
Week 3 – Panto!
For our parent and child Easy Peasy Pods session today we went to see Snow White panto at the Ipswich Regent.
The residents and their children enjoyed this trip out together as a group to the theatre. The babies really liked watching all the different lights and dancing, listening to the singing and music.
We would like to say a huge thank you to Notcutts Garden Centre, who kindly donated money so we were able to take the residents out on this trip.
Week 6
This week has been the last week of working on You Make Me Smile in Easy Peasy Pods. After a quiet couple of weeks over the Christmas period it was nice to come back together to celebrate the last week of this book.
We have spent some time reading through the book together again and then had fun playing with the toys and also making some new decorations for our parent and child room to get ready for our next year of Easy Peasy Pods and the upcoming spring!
