Cultural Taster Day

On 23rd June staff from the HRS team and Parent & Child team in Ipswich planned a mini cultural taster day to be held on-site. The aim of this was to bring all of the residents from different provisions together to try a variety of foods from different cultures. Staff from HRS, Parent & Child and also from the UASC department worked hard to prepare a variety of different dishes from different ethnicities and cultures and encouraged young people to come along and try the different dishes, learn about different types of food, and socialise with others that they may not normally spend time with.

The dishes on offer included:

  • Chicken curry, rice and peas, and fried plantain
  • Moussaka
  • Samosas, pakora and chickpeas
  • Falafels with yoghurt sauce and pita bread
  • Potato salad
  • Oriental snacks – spring rolls, prawn toasts and gyoza
  • Gazpacho
  • Brownies
  • Banoffee pie
  • Spicy rice
  • Bofloat – Ghana doughnuts
  • Plantain chips
  • Cupcakes
  • Vegetable sticks and dips

The event was a big success with lots of residents in attendance and everyone enjoyed spending time together trying new dishes, learning about different cultures and socialising. We look forward to planning another Cultural Taster Day and hope this will be as big of a success!
