RAF Wyton Coronation event

Airplay RAF Wyton

Coronation event

We have been involved in the Coronation Crown and Soldier Project for Huntingdon in Bloom. Where over 25 different community groups in Huntingdon took part in decorating six foot  Soldiers and Wooden Crowns  for the Kings coronation in May. These would go on display around Huntingdon. Our young people took part in the project and had immense pride in designing and painting their soldier and crown. The young people that took part will have their names added to a plaque and will be displayed along with their creations.

On April the 20th all the soldiers and crowns were being unveiled in a ceremony in the Town Hall’s historic assembly room. Unfortunately, as a school day we were not able to attend but kept up to date.

The soldiers will stand to attention along Huntingdon’s High Street to mark King Charles III’s Coronation, with the crowns hanging from the hanging basket displays at St Benedict’s Court and the Sebastopol Cannon site. The Coronation soldiers will remain on duty throughout the summer and will then be displayed in each group’s garden alongside a descriptive plaque.

2nd May Coronation week the Soldiers and Crowns were installed as stated above and will be there until June.

Community Work

After a consultation for the Community needs Analysis, our young people asked if we could do a litter pick, I spoke to the parish Council to see if we could borrow some equipment and if there was anywhere in particular, they would like us to tackle.

The young people chose where they would like to go.

We have been involved in two litter picks so far. One with Ben Club and one with the juniors

They all worked really hard and really enjoyed their experience, we picked up rubbish in all of the parks around Wyton on the Hill. Our members were really proud of themselves it gave them a real sense of belonging and pride.

We will be using the evidence as part of John Muir award. We also received a lovely certificate for our members for taking part from Wyton on the Hill School which was great.

Environmental

Along with our Litter picks we have been making bird cakes/feeders to feed the local wildlife. This week Ben Club have been out hanging them on the trees in the woodland.

We used toilet paper rolls, peanut butter or lard, bird seed and fruit.

Juniors and Ben club have taken part in making them and have really enjoyed the sessions we had great fun in the woodlands hanging them up and picking up resources for our Bug Hotel.
