Mentoring – A Solution Focused Approach for those working with young people
According to NHS research for October 2020, 1 in 6 children and young people are likely to have a diagnosable mental health disorder. This has increased from 1 in 9 in 2017.
Motivational Interviewing and Solution Focused Approaches can significantly improve outcomes for those that are at risk of developing mental health issues and help re-engage young people who struggle to make positive changes. This course gives schools the opportunity to learn from clinical professionals about how they can apply theory to supporting young people on a 1-to-1 basis in a non-therapeutic way.
What is the course?
Forming a key element of our ‘Enhanced Stage 2 Training’ as part of our newly approved Competency framework, this 1-day course covers an introduction to motivational interviewing and solution focused therapy, active listening skills, goal setting and measuring impact. It is suitable for pastoral teams, HLTAs, teachers, senior leads and head teachers from both primary, secondary and further education settings. It is equally applicable to community youth workers or anyone supporting young people on a 1-to-1 basis. Delegates will leave with a manual of essential training advice with templates and guides to using the techniques learned.
