Kayleigh tells us about her experiences as an apprentice with YMCA Trinity
Did you know YMCA Trinity Group support a number of apprentices across our different projects? They make a fantastic contribution to their team and our community whilst they learn new skills and progress in their chosen career.
Before Christmas we heard from Lizzie from our Water Lane nursery.
This time we’re hearing from Youth Worker Kayleigh from The Shine Project:
“Since doing my work experience in a school, I always had the desire to work with young people. As I got older I found it hard and harder to get the experience of this job role I desired due to lacking qualifications. One of my friends who works for the YMCA mentioned to me about the apprenticeships that YMCA offer and at 25 I knew It was time for me to follow my dreams and was the perfect opportunity to me, so I applied with my fingers crossed.
I was amazed to be offered this apprenticeship and experience of learning to be a successful youth worker, It’s everything I expected and more and I’m so grateful to be spending my time doing something I enjoy so much. The professional relationships that have grown between my colleagues and I and also with the young people that come to our sessions is overwhelming. I feel like I’ve fit in straight away and I love being a part of something so special, changing young people lives and helping them gain life experience through fun activities and seeing the young people shine is something that I’ll never get tired of seeing. I believe youth work is something I’m destined to do and I never want it to end.
I’m having so much fun being a part of YMCA, It’s a great experience and would recommended it with anyone who would like to work with young people and make a difference to people’s lives! As well as making a difference to other people’s lives, this experience has changed my life in the best possibly way.”
