Mental Health Support for Parents and Carers

Parents and carers have a vital role to play in supporting the mental health needs of children and young people.  As a result of our work in schools, we can also support parents and carers through a range of services organised in partnership with organisations that work directly with these groups.  These include:

Webinars

During the pandemic we organised a range of free open webinars for parents to  discuss mental health related topics that were of interest.  We are delighted to make the recordings available for anyone to watch, by visiting our additional resources page.

As a result of their huge popularity, we are also organising a whole new set of live sessions during 2021/22. Look out on our @YMCA_Wellbeing twitter page or go to the bottom of our training events calendar page for details of how to book. Topics include:

  • Building resilience in our children
  • How parent wellbeing helps child wellbeing
  • Parenting traps and how to avoid them –  noticing your own habits and breaking cycles
  • Strategies to stay calm with your child in a busy world
  • Parenting tips for when you aren’t feeling physically or mentally well

NEW – First Aid training for adults and young people

Training

Many of our Mental Health Training courses are available to parents and carers, particularly the Core and Enhanced training, so please do look at these pages for more information. Tailored workshops we can arrange for organisations that work with parents and carers include:

Parents can also access our FREE Level 2 training courses on a range of topics if they are eligible.

Direct Support

In addition to training, we can also offer clinical support to parents and carers such as counselling and family work.  This isn’t a self-referral service, but is offered through existing parent and carer organisations.

If you are an organisation that works with parents and carers, please contact us by calling 01733 373 187 or email [email protected].
