Ipswich Marathon Man

Nyisha Rankin has let us know about this great story about one of our UASC residents who has been supported by the YMCA for 4 years and has been doing well in college along with joining Ipswich Harriers athletics club.

Life can be turbulent and the resident was experiencing some ups and downs, so we felt he needed something positive to focus on. Therefore, we entered him into the Ipswich Half Marathon!

He was super excited to be doing this as his dream is to run in the London marathon but, two weeks before the the run, there was a major setback when he contracted COVID-19.

However, despite the fact he hadn’t trained he was determined to still run in the Half Marathon so just joined the run at the very back and ran!

He achieved an amazing result and finished 13th with the time of 1:24:45!! Unfortunately he didn’t have a number, and, when Nyisha asked what had happened to his number, he said “I didn’t have one, I just ran!”

Even though his score was not electronically registered on the site we couldn’t be prouder – well done on this fantastic effort and continue to follow your dream!
